Millennium Champs! Citadel Boy's Hockey Team Takes Gold!
This past weekend (November 3rd to the 6th), the Citadel Phoenix boys hockey team won the annual Millennium Tournament in Antigonish, hosted by the local high school, Dr. JH Gillis. The team got off to a slow start on Thursday night, losing 4-0 to CEC, but rebounded the next morning, beating the reigning provincial champs, North Nova, handedly with a score of 5-1. The team faced off with Lockview Friday night in a win or go home game, and came out victorious.
With that win, the Phoenix moved on to the semi-finals against rival school CPA and won 3-2, with goaltender Chris Rutledge making a huge save to stop the game from heading into overtime. That same afternoon the team had to play CEC once again in the final game, the same team they had lost to in the first game of the tournament. The team went down quickly and were losing 1-0 for most of the game, until Grade 11 Dave Gagnon opened the scoring for Citadel with less than 5 minutes remaining in the game and Grade 12 Captain Marshall Taylor put the Phoenix in the lead with just over a minute to play. The boys managed to hold off CEC and leave Antigonish champs!
The team has home games most Saturday nights at 6 p.m., at the Saint Mary's Arena. Find the full schedule here:
