Movie Review: Beauty and the Beast

The much anticipated live-action remake of the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast was released on Friday, March 17th. Starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast, the movie was a fantastic journey into the magical world of the age-old fairy-tale.

The film was definitely one I looked forward to as the release date inched closer, and I was not disappointed in the slightest. Set in France, the movie perfectly captured the quaint town that Belle hailed from as well as the magnificent castle that served as the background to the blooming relationship between Belle and the Beast.

Perhaps the most stunning element of the movie was the music. Featuring elaborate costumes and choreography, each musical number was nothing short of amazing. “Be Our Guest” was my personal favourite, showcasing an upbeat melody that was punctuated with phenomenal visual effects. The overall effect was a beautiful display of talent and fantasy that truly made the film shine. This atmosphere was only added to by each of the cast members who showcased great skill in the musical numbers.

The storyline, despite being incredibly well-known, was touching. Watson delivered a great performance of the independent and strong-willed Belle. Each of the animate household objects that resided in the castle added a comic touch to the film, while also serving to heighten its magical atmosphere. The cast members all did an incredible job in portraying the classic characters while adding fresh twists to the film.

In my opinion, the film was a success. The relationship between Belle and the Beast was endearing and truly a great love story. Beauty and the Beast offered a stunning film that captured the fantasy behind the classic story. I highly recommend this movie!
